Since the tanks went by

We have arrived in Key West after watching the races at Talladega.

Okay, like I said, we made it to Key West and now I've got the pics working. 100_1567.jpg 100_1568.jpg

There's the example of some of the problems, road hazard blowouts.

100_1549.jpg 100_1550.jpg

There's our camp area in the infield at Talladega.

What was Lisa doing on the phone??? Oh, I remember, I think she was rubbing it in to family back home that weren't at the races.

Check it out, Louisianna roadside swamp/lakes.

All about Key West is up next. This evening we had a great meal at a new (to us anyway) cafe here. An ice cream shop with a twist. MMMMMMMMMMMMMM.

Tanks go by

I haven't posted much about our stay here in OK as not much is going on, until this morning. I'm sitting at the puter, checking e-mails and such, and I hear a rumbling in the distance. A little early morning wake up call. There's gonna be a whole lot of booming going on today. 100_1533.jpg 100_1535.jpg 100_1536.jpg 100_1538.jpg 100_1539.jpg 100_1540.jpg

Entry for April 11

Entry for April 11, 2008
100_1515.jpg

Here's some homemade yard art. This train is made out of plastic bottles of some sort. This was in the Yuma foothills.

100_1516.jpg
We are camped on Ft Sill and for the first day we were able to drive across this creek, but with the heavy rain it's become too dangerous so we have to detour through another gate that is locked. Every time anyone wants to come in or out the camp host has to drive down and let them in or out. Real government incompetence at it's best. We're hoping that by tomorrow the water will recede low enough to make crossing safe again. The wind has been howling here since we arrived, no fun at all. It was fun putting the sat antenna up in 30mph winds, weighed it down with a 5 gallon oil bucket, full of course.

Pink's in Hollywood

Pink's in Hollywood
Made a trip to Hollywood today to check out Pink's, the famous hot dog stand to the stars. 100_1507.jpg
Parking for motorcycles is no problem.
100_1508.jpg I got there a little early and there was already a line.
100_1509.jpg
The order window, I ordered a spicy polish dog which comes with mustard, onions, and chili, washed it down with a black cherry soda. I shoulda ordered the mild polish dog, the spicy was really spicy, I felt it all afternoon.
100_1506.jpg Here's the gate into Paramount Studios.
100_1510.jpg 100_1511.jpgCouple of shots of Graumen's Chinese theater.
100_1512.jpg
I got a nice pic of the Hollywood sign, but I figured I could get closer, 100_1513.jpg
and I did.
100_1514.jpg
Then I found a spot where I could get a pic of Smokin' with the sign in the background. All in all a fun day of riding even if it was all freeway and city streets.

A visit from friends

Our first stop on our trip and we have already had a visit from friends. Ray and Lori stopped by Palm Springs and visited us for a day on the way to Oregon and Alaska. It was sure good to see them. They told us all about the lot they bought in Yuma. We will see them in July as Lori is going to be staying not too far away from where our family reunion will be held.

On the road again

Left Fresno and headed southeast, arrived in Palm Desert safe and sound, wind was howling like crazy all through the desert part of the run. 100_1504.jpg 100_1505.jpg

Got a not too bad spot here, only 30 amp though, but there is a row of trees protecting us from the wind.
100_1503.jpg
We sure miss our little guy already, usually this morning we would be watching him for the day.

A check up

We moved over the weekend to Paul Evert's RV to have the coach checked over and the oil changed prior to heading east. The move over was uneventful and now it parking lot life for a week. I'm sure looking forward to getting back on the road.

Ride to Wave Organ in San Francisco

Ride to the Wave Organ
100_1490-1.jpg 100_1491-1.jpg 100_1493-1.jpg
Left early, 630am, cold and then windy after Merced. Had a nice breakfast with Frank and Chelle, then rode to Mountain View where we hooked up with Gary and Claudia on the Hondapatomus. Gary led the way through San Francisco, the scenic route past Fisherman's Wharf to the Yacht Club in the Marina District. We explored the Wave Organ but the tide was wrong for us to really hear it. Interesting nevertheless and we need the walkabout anyway.

100_1496-1.jpg 100_1500-1.jpg 100_1498-1.jpg 100_1499-1.jpg 100_1497-1.jpg

Then we rode to Twin Peaks and had a great view of all of San Francisco. Watch the tourists play "Dodge the Bus and steal their parking", what fun.

100_1501-1.jpg
After that we headed for "The Burger Joint" it's listed as number 16 of the top 20 burgers you have to eat before you die. The burger is made with Niman beef (whatever that is) and was quite good. Chelle, our resident vegetarian, had the Veggie Burger and she gave it a thumbs up too. After lunch we all split our own directions and braved the wind all the way home.

KT gets attention

Had a great visit with Cuzn Frank last weekend. Manage to get three items done for KT, 1. Change oil and filter, 2. Install Corbin heated seat, 3. Re-attach handle in trunk for helmet hook. Got to ride the cobwebs outta KT also. Had a wonderful dinner with Bob and Dorothy also and celebrated good OLD Bob's birthday!!! 100_1478.jpg 100_1481.jpg

Lousy weather day

Went ridin anyway!
Yesterday the weather was perfect, I didn't ride though, planned to ride today. Get up this am and overcast, windy, just plain crappy. I say, "So what, I'm riding" First I headed south, then changed my mind and headed north, didn't like that so turned again and headed east. As I got out of the valley into the foothills the wind seemed to die down. I'm riding along, kinda have a general idea of where I am, not exact though, but doesn't seem to matter, I've pretty much got the whole road to myself. Then I round a corner and by golly, I've arrived at Humphrey's, which I have been to twice but never from this direction. And there's practically a car show there. 100_1465.jpg 100_1466.jpg 100_1467.jpg 100_1468.jpg 100_1470.jpg 100_1473.jpg
Ferrari's, Ford GT40's, Cobra's, Mustang GT350 and a GT 500 and Dodge Vipers. Bryan, from the Pashnit forum, on his new Ducati wanted his pic taken with a Ferrari. There were a few motorcycles there too. After leaving Humphrey's and getting out of the hills, the wind was still blowing like crazy, actually picked up a bit. So I was glad to get straight away back and put Smokin' away.
